Classroom Document: Stations and Technology
During my two weeks at the school, the fifth grade classes were finishing up their unit on ecosystems. One of the activities my teacher included in her lesson was stations that incorporated food chains, biomes, and different organisms. I took a picture of the Promethean Board with the different stations the students would rotate in and also pictures of a few stations. This photo shows how the teacher integrated technology into her lessons as much as possible. One of the stations I took a picture of combined science and language arts by having the students write an acrostic poem about one biome.
Reflection:
After I saw how well students worked in the stations and moved so quickly through them, I decided to include stations in my science lesson. This document was important to me because it helped to see how to set up stations in a way that the students are familiar with and brought in classroom management. I loved how the teacher included technology into the activity, as easily as showing a slide that had the stations with their titles. She literally uses the Promethean board every day and every chance she gets. I also like how the teacher integrated more than one subject into the lesson. I feel that this relates to the IMB classes I’m taking now because we are being taught that integrated two or more subjects is key to students’ learning. I feel that I will use this strategy in my own classroom in the future because it included technology, integration, and order in the classroom.
